Assessment of student learning

CCC regularly evaluates whether students are learning what they came here to learn. This process, called assessment, helps faculty and academic leaders understand what is working, identify where students need more support, and make changes that improve outcomes over time.

What This Means for You

Every course and program at CCC has defined learning outcomes, specific skills and knowledge you should have when you finish. Faculty regularly measure whether students are meeting those outcomes, and when the data shows a gap, they use it to improve curriculum, instruction, and support.

How It Works

Assessment at CCC follows a continuous cycle:

• Define outcomes: Each course and program identifies the specific knowledge and skills students should gain
• Measure results: Faculty collect evidence of student learning through coursework, projects, and other assessments
• Analyze findings: Results are reviewed to identify strengths and areas for improvement
• Make improvements: Changes are made to courses, programs, and instruction based on what the data shows
• Repeat: The cycle continues so that improvement is ongoing, not a one-time event

Who Is Responsible

Assessment at CCC is a shared responsibility across the institution. Faculty lead the work in their courses and programs. The Faculty Assessment Coordinator provides training, guidance, and oversight. Academic deans integrate assessment findings into program planning and resource decisions. The Assessment Committee provides college-wide leadership and ensures consistency across programs.
