Financial Aid

STudent Verifcation

Financial aid is awarded with the expectation that you will attend your classes for the entire semester/term. Never attending, dropping, or withdrawing from your classes can have both short-term and long-term consequences for your future financial aid eligibility.

If you withdraw from a class, your tuition charges will remain the same; however, your financial aid may be reduced or cancelled. Also, you might find you are not eligible for financial aid in future terms because you have withdrawn from too many credit hours in past terms.

Students receiving financial aid who withdraw, never attend or stop attending class(es), will have their financial aid adjusted. More details are below.

Withdrawing from Some of your classes

If you withdraw from a class but remain enrolled in other classes, you may still be eligible for financial aid.

However, a withdrawal (W on your transcript) counts as attempted credits when CCC reviews your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). This can lower your Pace of Progression and affect your eligibility for financial aid in a future semester. A W does not count toward your GPA.

Depending on how many classes you withdraw from, you may have to return some money to CCC in a process called a Return of Title IV Funds calculation. Withdrawing from one class does not automatically require a Return of Title IV Funds calculation. Federal R2T4 rules generally apply when a student stops attending all Title IV-eligible coursework for the payment period, although special rules apply to short-term and late-start classes.

Withdrawing from All of Your classes

If you receive federal financial aid and withdraw from or stop attending all of your classes, CCC may be required to determine how much of your federal aid you earned before you stopped attending.

This is called a Return of Title IV Funds calculation, or R2T4.

Federal financial aid is earned as you complete the semester. If you leave before completing the semester, you may not have earned all of the federal aid that was paid to you or applied to your account. CCC may have to return the unearned portion, which can create a balance that you owe to the college.

R2T4 applies to the federal grant and loan programs CCC participates in, including:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
  • Federal Direct Subsidized Loans
  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans
  • Federal Direct PLUS Loans

Federal Work-Study earnings are not included in an R2T4 calculation because they are earned through work you have already performed.
